CARRIE'S DEN

The Many Faces of Carrie

On a couple of occasions Don Lawrence used the ploy of having Carrie dreaming as a way of exposing her to some exotic peril.

It was a useful device for getting the reader to suspend belief at the impossible situations Carrie sometimes found herself in and introduced an extra element of fun by virtue of the reaction when she awoke in the final panel.

Mario Capaldi used it once during his brief time on the strip to send our heroine on a space adventure (a whole year before Star Wars.)

Steve Kingston liked the variety it offered. He says he would encourage the writers to make greater use of the "dreamer" motif during his time on the strip, and we saw Carrie variously involved with

pirates,

torturers,

cannibals,

cowboys,

a female gladiator and even

King Kong!
